Applications
1. Telecom, CATV Network, Fiber to the home (FTTH)
2. Local Area Network (LAN), Wide Area Network (WAN)
3. Fiber Optic Distribution Frame, Patch Panel, ONU
4. Maintenance or emergency restoration of fiber network
Field Installable Connector (FIC, also called Fast Connector) is a perfect solution for field termination and widely used in the FTTH market now.
FIC is pre-produced in the factory, so there is no need to use epoxy, polishing, and crimping in the field.
This makes fiber terminations fast, easy and reliable.
Fiber optic connectors (FOC) carry information using entirely optical (light based) technology. They comprise so-called light guides which are made of transparent components such as glass or plastic to transport optical signals in the form of light. To perform the optical transmission in the connection, the individual fibers are connected to each other with maximum precision. High-precision mechnical guide tubes - ferrules - bundle the fibers and accommodate them in the connector.
The advantages of these fiber optic connectors are high transmission rates and ranges as well as reduced dimensions. Furthermore, there is no negative influence from electromagnetic interference fields. Fiber optic connectors are very robust and therefore not only used successfully for data transmission in data centers, but also in power plant technology, wind turbines and industrial automation. In addition, they are used in medical technology and sensors.
High-quality connectors ensure highest data transmission rates and continuous availability. For this reason, the insertion loss (dB) and return loss (dB) values must be influenced by the connection as little as possible. Other requirements for fiber optic connectors are: easy handling, mechanical stability in continuous operation and low space requirements.
This makes it all the more important to select, use and maintain FO connectors correctly.
