PRODUCT DESCRIPTION

- Symptomatic treatment of acute diarrhea such as: traveller's diarrhea, acute infectious diarrhea, and enterotoxigenic diarrhea.

- Symptomatic control and pain relief in chronic diarrhea from irritable colon and malabsorption syndrome.

- Use in patients with colostomy or ileostamy to control intestinal transit and improve stool consistency.

- THE MAINSTAY FOR TREATMENT OF DIARRHEA IS REHYDRATION THEREAPY

DIRECTIONS FOR USE

Acute diarrhea: starting dose is 2 tablets for adults and 1 tablet for children older than 12 years of age followed by one tablet after each loose stool not to exceed 6 tablets in a 24 hour period.

Chronic diarrhea: starting dose is 2 tablets for adults and 1 tablet for children older than 12 years of age. This dose will be adjusted until 1 to 2 solid evacuations per day occur which is usually obtained with a maintenance dose of 1 to 6 tablets per day.

FORMULATION

Each tablet contains 2mg Loperamide Hydrochloride

Lomotil is adjunct in the symptomatic management of acute & chronic diarrhea & management of colostomies or ileostomies to improve stool consistency

WARNINGS & PRECAUTIONS

Do not use in:

- children less than 12 years old unless directed by a doctor

- pregnant or breastfeeding mothers

- patients who are hypersensitive to loperamide

- patients who are constipated, with intestinal obstruction, or with intestinal atonia

- patients suspected of having dysentery (characterized by bloody stool and fever)

- patients with acute ulcerative colitis or pseudomembranous colitis associated with broad spectrum antibiotic use

Use under medical supervision in patients with:

- liver failure

- prostatic hyperplasia (enlargement of the prostrate gland)

Keep out of reach of children.

Consult a doctor if diarrhea persists, worsens, or does not improve within 48 hours.
