Temperature

Onions are highly adaptable to temperature. Seeds and bulbs can germinate slowly at 3～5℃, and start to accelerate at 12℃. The suitable temperature for growth of seedlings is 12～20℃, leaves at 18～20℃, bulbs at 20～26℃, robust seedlings can withstand 6～7℃ The low temperature. Bulb enlargement requires higher temperature. Light

Moisture

Onions should be supplied with sufficient water during the germination period, the peak growth period of the seedlings and the bulb expansion period. But in the seedling period and before overwintering, the water should be controlled to prevent the seedlings from growing excessively and suffering from freezing damage. Control irrigation 12 weeks before harvest to make the bulb tissue full, accelerate maturity, and prevent bulb cracking. Onion leaves are drought-tolerant and suitable for humidity of 60% to 70%. If the air humidity is too high, it is easy to cause disease.

Soil and nutrition

Onions are highly adaptable to the soil. It is best to use fertile, loose, and aerated neutral loam. Sandy loam is easy to obtain high yield, but clay loam has full bulbs, good color and storage. The onion root system has a weak ability to absorb fertilizer, and sufficient nutrients are required for high yield. Every 1,000 kg of onions need to absorb 2 kg of nitrogen, 0.8 kg of phosphorus, and 2.2 kg of potassium from the soil. The application of copper, boron, sulfur and other trace elements can significantly increase production.

sowing
